Who am I?

I am a person who is good at a lot of stuff but not excellent at any one thing.  This and my constant craving for knowledge has led me to the lifestyle of a Dabbler.  I am always eager to try new things and make work whether that work is for our new house, an inspiring piece of art, or a gift for a dear friend; I am always doing.  In addition to making art, I teach art.  I love teaching by sharing the experience and satisfaction art can bring a person with my students.

History of Me:

I grew up in the Southwest portion of Michigan, worked for a fruit farm for almost ten years, and did almost anything and everything you could do in high school. I am a Central Michigan University Alumna.  I graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor's of Science in Education: Visual Arts Education and a Bachelor's of Applied Arts in Three Dimensional Art concentrating in Ceramics.  I worked as a the studio technician while at CMU running kilns, mixing glazes/clay, teaching welding, basic shop safety and more.  My artwork while is school was utilitarian.  I utilized the Wood and Soda kiln, using the atmospheric environment to create unique surfaces on my ceramic ware.  As I got closer and closer to graduating, I realized that surface design was what I really wanted to do with my work.  Since then, my utilitarian pottery has been focused on patterns, industry/technology, inorganic and organic images mixing together, and function.  I use underglazes to achieve the results and colors I want.

Since graduating, I have been teaching.  I ran a before school program in the morning and taught middle school art for two years in the Greater Detroit area.  This past year, we bought a house in Grand Rapids, MI and started the job hunting process all over again.  I am now an elementary art teacher and absolutely love my job.  Every day I wake up and think how lucky I am to be one of the few who love going to work, even if the waking up is hard.  Moving back to the west side of Michigan has also been great.  We love the people, the environment, and the weather.

Speaking of we, my soon-to-be husband, Ben and I bought a house in June 2014 and moved in July of that same year. Ben and I officially got engaged in September of 2014 and are currently avoiding the planning part of a wedding set for September 2016.We have a wonderful dog, Max, a lab-shepherd mix.  Max is our pride and joy, serving as our pseudo-kid.  A lot of our time is spent working on the house and traveling to see family.  Our spring and summer project this coming year will be to fence in the backyard to ensure Max doesn't chase the neighborhood turkeys and remodel the garage to serve as my studio.  As soon as my studio is done, my pottery making will take off and I'll be able to start selling more of it; But in the meantime for those interested, feel free to stop by my Etsy page.  I have a variety of ceramic pieces, silk dyed scarves designed by hand, and several charcoal and graphite drawings.
